COVID-19 Updates for Independent Living

A lot has changed in our world since the pandemic began. One thing that hasn’t is our commitment to helping our residents enjoy an independent, active lifestyle while maintaining the safest possible environment.

Before Covid-19

...our residents enjoyed a vibrant community full of fun activities. Packed dining rooms full of laughter, bingo games, exercise classes, water aerobics, art classes, trips to the grocery store or entertainment destinations were a part of daily life. The social interaction and physical activity helped residents maintain a positive mindset and overall wellness.

The Past Year

Covid-19 entered our world in early 2020 and the news was frightening, especially to an older and more vulnerable senior population.  We paid immediate attention to CDC, Arizona State and Maricopa county health department information and executive orders.  We have been prompt to comply with these guidelines and implemented several other precautions at our own initiative. The temporary halt of many services and the isolation that our residents experienced as a result saddened us all, so our staff reacted quickly, creatively and with courage.

Every Day Heros

Our staff has had to adapt to constant and quick change as well as the frustrations that all of us have felt with the inconveniences that accompany safety.

One of the biggest changes was quickly shifting from a dine-in model to a delivery only model. We even set up an on-site Country store for commonly needed items when transportation to grocery stores is not possible.  Staff have had to cover a number of duties not in their original job descriptions - from conducting health screenings to making resident welfare and "cheer up" calls during periods of isolation. From making grocery and package deliveries to residents doors to continual cleaning and disinfecting of common areas and surfaces. Exercise classes on Channel 1960 by our SeniorFit instructor, pop up events in the courtyards, special treat deliveries, video chat enablement and so much more all helped keep our resident's spirits up during the most challenging periods.

Throughout all of this, our staff stayed focused on our residents and have been nothing short of heroes. They rarely complained and come to work each day ready to do what it takes to serve our residents.  We are truly blessed.

Today

We have returned to “almost normal” but maintain a watchful eye on virus spread and government guidelines.

Safety measures remain in place. Staff are continually trained on infection control protocol. Health screenings occur every day for staff, residents and visitors entering common areas. Masks are still required in our community when residents/visitors are outside of the apartments. In addition, we offer monthly testing and have held multiple on site vaccination clinics. As of April 2021, approximately 80% of our independent living residents have been fully vaccinated.

Dining services - We will maintain proper social distancing for safety. Our dining rooms will be therefore limited to 50% capacity and residents only. See our dining page for hours, dining options and the latest menu.

Housekeeping services are back to normal with visits twice a month.

Senior Fit - Advance reservations are required for an individual workout, group class or education session. Social distancing and cleaning guidelines provided by the Health Dept and Symbria Health will be strictly adhered to.

Swimming pools - hours will be from 7:00am-7:00pm daily. Social distancing required. No guests in the pool areas.

Transportation services have resumed with group outings as well as individual medical appointments within our boundaries.

Activities have resumed! Please see our Activities page for the latest information.
